Cub Scout Pack 406

About 406

Every Cub Scout is a member of a Cub Scout pack. A pack is a large group of boys.

The pack is divided into smaller groups called dens. Each den has about six to eight boys. All of the Cub Scouts in a den are about the same age and live in the same neighborhood.

The Cub Scout pack belongs to a church, a school, or some other group of people in your community or neighborhood, called a chartered organization. This group makes sure your pack has good adult leaders, a place to meet, and exciting things to do. Pack 406′s chartered organization is the 7:10 Rotary Club of Westminster. Another important person is the chartered organization representative who is Mark Clark. He is the direct contact between the pack and the chartered organization.

Pack Meeting Schedule

Pack 406 holds meetings every Wednesday night for three weeks out of the month. The 2nd and 4th week, each individual den will meet (usually called a den meeting). At den meetings the boys will each work on requirements aimed at earning that den’s primary badge. The 3rd week of the month is usually reserved for the entire pack to get together (usually called a pack meeting). Pack Meetings bring together the boys from every den, their leaders, and their families, to showcase everything the boys have learned and done in their individual den meetings. The 1st week is reserved for the Pack Committee & leaders to get together and discuss the packs progress. It’s also a chance to schedule special activities, events, or field trips that the pack might be interested in. Included in this packet is this year’s schedule of meetings and events that you can use for future reference.

Meetings are always held at the Arapahoe Ridge Cafeteria from 7pm to 8pm, unless otherwise told by your den leader.

Pack Fundraisers

There is one major fundraiser that we do each year. This is the famous Popcorn fundraiser, which runs from September to October. There are several ways that your son can participate in the popcorn fundraiser. Each boy will receive their own order forms and can sell to friends, family, & neighbors. Parents can also help out by taking the order forms to work. We also will do a neighborhood “Show ‘N Sell” by getting together in groups and walking around the neighborhood. The last thing we will do is a Walmart “Show ‘N Sell” and set up a booth to sell popcorn to store customers.

A majority of the funds will be raised through this fundraiser and each boy that participates will have a percentage of the funds deposited into their account. You can use these funds to pay for pack dues, camp fees, badges, and other items needed.

Other fundraisers that we might due throughout the year are the annual Scout Show discount cards and CiCi’s Pizza Party fundraisers.

Pinewood Derby

The pinewood derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. Pack 406 has a pinewood derby every year. Every boy can design and build his own “grand prix” car to enter in the race. The top 3 finishers of the entire pack will advance to the district finals, which are held a few months later.

Blue & Gold Banquet

Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a “birthday party” called the blue and gold banquet. In nearly all packs, the blue and gold banquet is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer. It’s often the pack meeting for February.

The purpose of the blue and gold banquet is to celebrate the pack’s anniversary, thank pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents. Packs often like to invite former members and other Scouting or community leaders to take part in their blue and gold banquet. It?s also a chance to honor our Webelos II scouts who will be moving on to Boy Scouts after this school year.
